How police can support communities

I visited Sidley in Bexhill as part of my campaign for sussex Police and Crime Commissioner with local councillor and chair of regeneration Christine Bayliss I looked at the local BMX track and the site of the new skate park. As PCC I will invest in facilities for young people like youth clubs, sports clubs and other activities for the next generation to feel secure, safe and valued.

We need Labour’s Victims Law

We need a new, robust Victims Law to protect the rights of victims and witnesses. The danger is that if trust in the system declines much further, victims and witnesses will not step forward and the only winners will be the criminals.

I caught up with Labour MP for Hove and Portslade, and shadow minister for victims, Peter Kyle to discuss Labour’s alternative.

Labour is the party of Law and Order

When it comes to keeping Sussex safe, there is a clear choice on Thursday 6 May.

Labour will work to tackle the Tory rise in violent crime, put more police on our streets and put victims at the heart of the criminal justice system.

Or the Conservative Party who has cut the number of police on our streets, let violent crime rise and left victims waiting years for justice.

Labour’s pledges to tackle crime and protect victims are:

  • More police focusing on safer streets and tackling violence
  • Ensure police are on the beat rather than behind desks
  • Fight the causes of crime by ensuring provision of preventative services
  • Tougher sentences for rape and domestic violence
  • A new law to ensure victims are at the heart of the criminal justice system

Keir Starmer, Leader of the Labour Party said “Our top priority is to keep you, your family and your community safe.”

“Every day Labour councillors and Police & Crime Commissioners work hard to drive down crime and antisocial behaviour, tackle its root causes and ensure that criminals are brought to justice.”
